Exercise and probiotics



This systematic review shows a connection between exercise and our gut bacteria, aka “native probiotics.”

“Butyrate” (also found in butter/ ghee) is responsible for regulating energy metabolism in the colon.

Basically, what this study says is that movement is important for our colon and in turn helps our digestion work better.

Therefore, the AHA’s recommendation of 30 minutes of walking for 5 days a week is a solid way to add movement into a daily routine.

“Exercise was associated with changes in gut microbial composition, an increase in butyrate producing bacteria and an increase in fecal butyrate concentrations independent of diet in rodents and humans.”
